Professional Tax is a tax levied by the state governments on every company which transacts business and every person, who is engaged actively in any profession, trade, calling or employment within the Town Panchayat on the first day of every half year. The tax shall be paid half yearly. There is contribution from employer and employee towards this tax. The tax rates varies from state to state.

This enables the employers to know how much professional tax they have to pay.
